So I was fumbling around the Internet the other day and came upon this gem of a band. It’s music (and bands) like this that really gets my blood flowing. As for the name of the group, Trampled by Turtles … it’s perfectly odd and that my friends is fine by me. Enjoy.

Good People Brewing Company. Okay first off, the beer these folks brew is beyond tasty. It’s really, really good stuff and by far some of the best beer I’ve ever had (I have a thing for the Brown Ale they brew). And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I learned that they opened a tap room in the back of their warehouse and brewing facility where on randomly scheduled evenings they open it up to the public. Sounded awesome to me so a few buddies of mine and I decided to see what it was all about … and let’s just say it’s all that and then some. If you live in Birmingham, AL and enjoy sipping on great beer made by good people, then I highly suggest you swing by the next time they tap the kegs.

Adele is one of my favorite female artists. Her voice is arresting. Her lyrics are real. This video and song, Hometown Glory, is one that she recorded a few years back. Enjoy.

On a recent trip to Austin, TX I had the pleasure of dining at a place that takes the utmost pride in serving up some of the best tasting hot dogs, sausage, bacon and other mouth watering styles of eaten meat west of the Mississippi. They have some pretty damn tasty ice-cold beer on tap too. The menus, signage and posters hanging in the joint were all designed by a local design studio named The Decoder Ring, an establishment founded by the crazy talented, Christian Helms. On this particular day I had the Chicago Dog and a bacon infused, vodka spiked Bloody Mary. If you are ever in Austin, TX I urge you to pay this meat and beer paradise a visit – you’ll be glad you did, trust me.

I own a pair of these vintage classics. They are comfortable and awesome in more ways than one (mine are red and black and make for great game day shoes – GO DAWGS). They’re a great pair of shoes and I wish NIKE would re-release the design again. Doubt that will ever happen, but hey you never know right? With that said, here are just a few of the retro-cool posters that inspired me to purchase my NIKE Waffles a few years back. Be sure to check out the site listed below as well.

Eisley. I plan on seeing this band Tuesday night 5/31 at WorkPlay Theatre in BHAM, Al. The group is composed of three rough and tough women with silky smooth voices (there are two guys in the band too, but the ladies lead show). Good lyrics and good beats usually make for a great live show. We shall see.  www.eisley.com/index.php

With a new city comes new adventures. The wife (with baby in tow) and I have finally unpacked all of our stuff and settled into our new home in Birmingham, AL. We both found great jobs, a cozy house with a fenced yard (the dogs love this) and we can’t wait to explore everything the Magic City has to offer. I hear they have some great breweries here. Bonus.

Just discovered this band the other day (thanks Josh Koenig). They go by the name of We Are Augustines. I like them, a lot actually. Maybe one of these days I’ll get to see them up close and personal. We’ll see. In the meantime I’ll keep rocking my head to their lyrics and beats via their slick site.

Larry Legend. The Hick From French Link. This is the guy I wanted to be. This is the guy I would shoot basket, after basket long into the Ohio night pretending to be. He was my hero. He was the greatest man with a mustache to ever play the game. But Larry Bird didn’t just play basketball, he lived and breathed the game. It was his everything, his only thing – don’t believe me, read his book Drive. Man, they sure don’t make them like this anymore. I miss your game and your heart, Larry.

During the past couple of years I’ve had the great pleasure of working on several projects with my good photographer (and retouching genius) friend, Jay Quantz. The guy is a true talent and his passion for creating amazing work is immense. He truly loves what he does and you can see it in the photo’s he takes and creative scenes he builds. The work posted here is just a small taste of what Jay has done and can do. To see more of his work visit www.quantzphoto.com
